The Irish Senior Open is a European Seniors Tour event, played 14 times between 1997 and 2010. The Seniors Tour is the European PGA’s tour for male golfers aged 50 and over. It was founded in 1992.
Presented by Fáilte Ireland in 2010, the event was won by Frenchman Mark Farry, who fired a fine final round 69 at Carton House Golf Club in Maynooth to hold off the challenge of Scotland’s Ross Drummond.
Previous winners of the Irish Seniors Open include Ian Woosnam (2009), Constantino Rocca (2007) and Sam Torrance (2006).
The 54-hole strokeplay event has been played at several venues around the country, with Adare Manor hosting on three consecutive occasions from 2002 to 2004. Ballybunion, Ballyliffin, PGA National and Fota Island have also staged the event.
Clareman Joe McDermott remains the only home winner of the event, claiming victory in 1998 at the Woodbrook Golf Club in Wicklow, when he memorably shot a a hole-in-one on the 13th hole during his final round.
